Airdrie boss Ian Murray relishing fan return for play-off final

Airdrie boss Ian Murray insists his side can get a real boost from their fans returning in time for next week's Championship play-off final with Morton.

The Diamonds are working with the relevant bodies to allow up to 500 fans into New Broomfield for the first leg tie on Tuesday, May 18, with priority given to season ticket holders and Club 1924 members.

And Morton have confirmed they are in the process of sorting similar arrangement for the second leg at Cappielow on May 21, as Covid restrictions in sporting grounds begin to ease.

Murray is delighted the fans will be able to cheer on the team in the flesh for the first time this season after missing out on the last night's dramatic win over Cove Rangers.

He said: "Fans being allowed back has come at a really nice time for us.

"Hopefully we can sort that out for them. It's not really my area, but the headline of having fans in for the game is very welcome for everybody involved in football.

"It will be great for everybody to get that feeling of being at a live game, seeing football in the flesh again and supporting the team.

"They've missed a lot of drama this season, not just last night.

"It's been a crazy season for us and they've missed a really incredible period for the club.

"The blessing is they've watched it from afar on TV.

"Of course we'd have loved them to see it and share it with them, but hopefully in the final we have that chance now and it would be a lovely way to welcome the fans back, that's for sure, and great for everyone involved with the club."
