Airdrie boss Ian Murray denies move for Accies striker but does expect a signing

Airdrie boss Ian Murray says reports that his side are about to sign Hamilton Accies striker Callum Smith are "jumping the gun" but they are interested.

Smith, 21, enjoyed a successful loan period at New Broomfield while at Dunfermline, but then signed for Accies last summer.

That move doesn't appear to have worked out for him and he's looking to drop down to League One with Airdrie, according to reports.

Murray admitted he is keeping an eye on the situation though and says he hopes to bring somebody in within days.

He told Lanarkshire Live Sport: "Callum is a guy we know well. We've always kept an eye on Callum because of how well he did at Airdrie and how much of a likeable lad he was, but at the moment we don't have anything.

"Like any other club we want to sign good players but Callum's a Hamilton player, that's the bottom line.

"But when players like that become available we try and do our best to secure them.

"I think someone's maybe jumped the gun a wee bit, but we're hopeful of adding to our squad in the next couple of days."
