Airdrie boss back for Falkirk clash but No.2 Agnew relished taking reins

Scott Agnew says Airdrie boss Ian Murray will be back in the dug-out for Saturday’s New Broomfield showdown against Falkirk – but relished his time in charge.

Midfielder Agnew joked that he has a 100 per cent record as a gaffer after helping the Diamonds to a convincing 3-0 win over East Fife while Murray was in his 10-day self-isolation following a positive test.

Goals from Jordan Allan, Adam Frizzell and Dylan Easton gave the Diamonds a fourth win on the spin that consolidated third place in League One, a point behind second-placed Montrose and 11 ahead of Queen’s Park – though the Spiders have two games in hand.

While it was a surreal situation in which to find himself, bossing the side from a central midfield role, Agnew says he enjoyed it.

He said: “Ian will be back for the Falkirk game.

“He’ll be back through the week, and I’m in constant touch with him, so he can let me know through messages and preparation for then, but he will be back.

“Being in charge was an odd situation but it’s great for me, don’t get me wrong.

“The staff were brilliant, and the only difference was preparing the boys, because I had a wee bit more responsibility that way – but I was playing so I had a job to do on the pitch.

“I think I did that, the boys responded well, and it was quite comfortable in the end.

“I couldn’t have hoped for any more, to be honest.”

Airdrie now turn their attention to fifth-placed Falkirk, who visit New Broomfield on the back of a 6-2 win at home to Dumbarton.

Agnew said: “It’s a big game, they’re all big games, there are no easy ones, but we’re absolutely flying just now and we will be looking to win the game, of course.”
