One of Scotland’s most beloved comedians and the former guitarist with iconic rockers Oasis are the latest celebrities to give an appreciative thumbs-up to a prolific Airdrie artist.
David McDonagh, whose portraits have wowed actors, footballers and wrestling superstars over the past few years, presented his latest work to Still Game star Ford Kiernan and musician Paul Arthurs – better known as Bonehead.
He met with both big names separately and they were very impressed by David’s artwork of them in action.
David painted a portrait of Kiernan as his iconic Still Game character Jack Jarvis and fittingly daubed Arthurs’ likeness onto a guitar.
The celebrities signed David’s work – and lavished praise on the artist’s creations.
David said: “It was a really memorable experience meeting Ford and Bonehead.
“Ford is one of the funniest comedians this country has ever seen and I absolutely love Still Game.
“Oasis are one of my favourite bands, so getting the chance to get up close to Bonehead was a real thrill.
“Both guys really loved their portraits and were very complimentary about me and my work.

“Painting has allowed me to meet some of my footballing, musical, acting and wrestling heroes and I never tire of showing them my art.
“I still get such a buzz when these big stars praise my work.”
David runs his own firm, Lewy L Paintings, and the Gartlea man added: “Working as an artist is my dream job; that’s what I wanted to be when I was at school but got it knocked out of me when I was told it wasn’t a ‘real job’.
“But I’ve proved that it is and I’ve had great support from fellow artists and positive feedback from my painting subjects.”
