Airdrie are confident going into Cove showdown, says star Dean Ritchie

Dean Ritchie says Airdrie are feeling good and confident as they go into their Championship play-off semi-final second leg against Cove Rangers on Tuesday.

The Diamonds go into the clash at New Broomfield with a 1-1 draw from the Balmoral Stadium, after Callum Gallagher's 55th-minute opener was levelled 11 minutes later by former Airdrie striker Leighton McIntosh.

But Ritchie, who replaced Dale Carrick with seven minutes of normal time left, reckons Ian Murray's men are in a good position as they welcome Cove to New Broomfield.

He said: "I think everybody will be feeling good. The conditions of the game today, how edgy it was and all that, obviously once you take the lead you want to hold on, but at the end of the day we've got the home leg on Tuesday and we'll be feeling confident.

"It was always going to be an edgy game just with the occasion and how hard we've worked to get here, but we went up and conditions weren't the best, to be fair.

"It wasn't easy but we came away with an all right result, and just look forward to Tuesday

"We went up there and won last week but today had a different feel to it, this wasn't just 90 minutes, it's 180 minutes and potentially even more than that, so I think a wee bit of that came in to play.

"I think going up there and scoring, you want to try and hold on, but I think that puts us in a decent position going in to Tuesday."

Ritchie hopes home advantage can help Airdrie get through to the final against either Morton or Montrose, but says it's going to come down to who handles the tie better on the night.

He said: "At the end of the day it's still a two-legged tie, it's two games, and you go away from home first and then want to do well at home, but I don't think that comes into it too much.

"I think it's whoever performs on the night. You want to be at home in the second leg, know your surroundings, and be a bit closer to home, but at the end of the day when you step onto the pitch it's 11 v 11 and I think a lot of the stuff around that goes out the window."
