Airdrie and Clyde among clubs gifted early Christmas present thanks to Scottish Government grants

Christmas has come early for Airdrieonians, Albion Rovers and Clyde after it was confirmed they will receive grants from the Scottish Government.

Earlier this month, the Scottish Government announced a £55m Covid support package for struggling clubs hit by loss of ticket revenue during the pandemic.

And it has now been revealed League One clubs, which includes the Diamonds and the Bully Wee, will each receive £150,000 grants, while Rovers and other League Two clubs will pocket £100,000 each.

Lowland League clubs will also benefit with Lanarkshire sides East Kilbride, Cumbernauld Colts and Caledonian Braves all picking up £33,000 to support them into the new year.

Scottish Premiership sides Motherwell and Hamilton have also been offered assistance, in the form of low interest loans. The Government has set aside £20m for top flight clubs.

Women's football and other sports, including rugby and horse racing, are also supported in the £55m package.
