Airbus' UK sites implementing 'stringent' health and safety measures over next four days

Stringent health and safety conditions are set to be implemented this week at Airbus sites in the UK as it bids to prevent the spread of coronavirus between workers.

Airbus this morning announced that sites in France and Spain would go on pause for four days with operations halted.

This is meant to allow sufficient time to implement "stringent health and safety conditions" in terms of hygiene, cleaning and self-distancing.

While the aerospace giant is not shutting its facilities in the UK the same measures will be carried out at Broughton, North Wales and Filton, near Bristol, over the next four days.

They will take place around the 11,000 strong workforce while maintaining the majority of operational activities.

A spokesman said: "Today, March 17th, we decided to temporarily pause production and assembly activities at  French and Spanish sites across the Company for the next four days.

"This is meant to allow sufficient time to implement stringent health and safety conditions in terms of hygiene, cleaning and self-distancing."

They added: "In countries classified as level 2 or less (including UK, Germany, Canada and the US) the verification process will also be conducted between Tuesday 17th March and Friday 20th March per the direction of site managers, while maintaining the majority of operational activities."
