Airbus makes these six points after Conservative landslide win in the General Election

Airbus has released a six bullet point statement following the landslide General Election victory by the Conservative Party - spelling out the aerospace giant's hopes and concerns.

The company - which employs more than 10,000 workers in the UK - has always voiced concerns over the future relationship with the European Union after Brexit.

With operations in the UK, Germany, France and Spain they want to ensure that the smooth transition of workers and goods between sites can continue after the UK exits the EU.

Now the Conservatives have secured a majority of close to 80 MPs it can push on with its intention to leave the EU on a transition deal in January.

The first priority will be to negotiate a trade deal with the EU. The UK wants as much access as possible for its goods and services to the EU.

If no trade deal has been agreed by the end of June, then the UK faces the prospect of leaving without one at the end of December 2020.

Airbus today released this statement with six bullet points outlining its position.

  • The vote of the UK people is very clear.
  • The result does not change Airbus’ position on Brexit and regulatory alignment remains paramount.
  • We continue to be concerned by a potential ‘no-deal’ and are preparing for that scenario as that is the only way any responsible business can plan.
  • Airbus is running a major Brexit project in order to understand, eradicate and/or mitigate risks.
  • We continue to look for further clarity, and the removal of uncertainty.
  • The shape of the future EU/UK relationship remains of critical importance for Airbus.

The aerospace giant added: "We congratulate all new and returning MPs and welcome the fact that the UK Government now has a clear mandate. We look forward to positive discussions."
