Airbus says it is looking at how Chancellor Rishi Sunak's Job Support Scheme can help UK operations - with the battle to save jobs continuing.
The aerospace giant is cutting 1,700 jobs at Broughton in North Wales and Filton near Bristol as the crisis in aviation has seen production cut by a third.
Airbus had hoped to secure the cuts through voluntary redundancies but they are struggling to get the numbers in the blue collar roles at Broughton.
Unite the union has been pressing for ongoing UK Government financial support for a shorter working week for staff in a bid to save jobs.
Today the chancellor announced the Job Support Scheme as part of his Winter Economic Plan.
Under this, from 1 November for the next six months, employers will continue to pay the wages of staff for the hours they work - but for the hours not worked, the government and the employer will each pay one third of their equivalent salary.
This means employees who can only go back to work on shorter time will still be paid two thirds of the hours for those hours they can’t work.
A spokesman for Airbus said: "Airbus is looking at the details of the scheme to see how it will help our business in the UK.
"We welcome support measures from the government which will help to minimise the damage from the severe market downturn our industry is currently facing."
