Airbus has signed an 84 plane deal with Alitalia successor airline ITA

Airbus has signed an 84 plane deal with Alitalia successor airline ITA.

The aerospace giant confirmed the agreement for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) announced by the new Italian airline ITA to acquire new aircraft from Airbus' leading jet family to operate its future fleet.

The agreement comprises 28 directly purchased aircraft from Airbus including 7 A220s, 11 A320neos and 10 A330neos as well as separate agreements for up to 56 leased Airbus aircraft with a mix of short, medium and long haul.

Wings for the planes will be made at Airbus Broughton in Wales, except those for the A220s.

Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, said: "ITA has done a thorough clean sheet aircraft evaluation and has chosen Airbus across all segments. This is very gratifying and a testimony of the great value of the Airbus product range. It sets a benchmark in driving the decarbonization and efficiency agenda.

"From the start, we have been working closely with ITA, listening carefully to their requirements.

"Today we are proud and grateful to be alongside ITA in building its future together. Grazie Mille! "
