Airbus Beluga declares in-flight emergency during passenger flight from Germany

An Airbus Beluga had to declare an in-flight emergency today after it was found the jumbo jet had a cracked windscreen.

The pilots of Beluga Tango Bravo radioed in saying they needed an urgent landing while on their way from Germany to North Wales.

Emergency services were called to Hawarden Airport just before 3pm, September 27, to attend to the passengers on the plane as it landed.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said it sent two rapid response vehicles but said they "did not need to attend to any patients".

The jet landed safely in Hawarden, located in Flintshire near the northern border of England and Wales, at around 3.30pm.

A spokesperson for Airbus said: "Beluga Tango Bravo experienced an in-flight anomaly on its way to Hawarden Aerodrome from Hamburg.

"An emergency was declared at the airport in line with standard procedures.

"The aircraft landed safely at 15.30 and is currently being inspected."

A distress call was put out just after 2pm as the flight left Hamburg in Germany.

While the aircraft made its way over the UK six fire engined from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent six fire engines to the scene along with the Technical Rescue Unit and Incident Rescue Command.

The plane was towed back to the hanger safely following the incident.
