Airborne ute lands on three cars while exiting highway

A ute exiting a highway north of Brisbane has plunged off a ramp, landing on three cars and trapping two women in their vehicles.

Police said the 23-year-old driver of the ute was driving along the D'Aguilar Highway near Caboolture before veering onto the off-ramp, crossing two lanes, hitting the median strip and becoming airborne.

Two women, in their 40s, had to be saved from their cars using hydraulic equipment by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service.

One woman was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital with serious chest injuries, while the other — who was trapped for a significant amount of time — was treated for minor injuries.

Pumicestone Road was closed for several hours after the crash happened at 8:30am.

Police confirmed the ute was coming down the highway off-ramp toward southbound Pumicestone Road when it hit the northbound cars below.

A spokesperson for Queensland Ambulance said the ute's driver was not treated for any injuries.

Police are yet to confirm what led to the crash.
