Airbnb hosts in Cook County earned $31.3 million over the five biggest weekends last year, the hospitality service announced Wednesday.

About 97,200 people used the short-term rental system to find housing for Pride Fest, Lollapaloozza, the Chicago Marathon, Labor Day and a mid-August weekend.

“2019 was a great year for Airbnb hosts in the Chicago area, as more residents than ever before embraced the economic opportunity and helped grow the accommodation capacity for Chicago’s largest events and weekends,” Kelley Gossett, head of Midwest policy for Airbnb, said in a news release.

Airbnb is one of two short-term rental marketplaces licensed to operate in Chicago.

Cook County residents made a total of $133.5 million hosting Airbnb guests in 2019.

About 836,000 guests used the homestay platform, according to Airbnb.

The upcoming 2020 big five weekend dates: Chicago Pride Fest, June 26-28; Lollapalooza, July 31-Aug. 2; Aug. 14-16; Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-6; and the Chicago Marathon, Oct. 9-11.
