Hosts in Ayr could earn as much as an estimated £768 per month by opening their doors to guests on Airbnb, the accommodation platform has said.
Rising sums are available to earn by residents listing their entire homes on the popular site.
The data comes as part of a new campaign championing the Scottish Lowlands as a must-visit destination as tourism reopens across Scotland.
According to a study by BiGGAR Economics, commissioned by Airbnb, travel on Airbnb boosts the economy in East, North and South Ayrshire combined by £9.9 million and supports 485 jobs.
Amanda Cupples, general manager for Northern Europe at Airbnb, said: “With most of us taking a break in the UK this year, we are shining a spotlight on the Scottish Lowlands and places like Ayr to encourage visitors to try something new and help to spread the benefits of tourism beyond traditional hotspots and right across Scotland.”
According to a new survey of Scottish hosts on Airbnb...
- A third say the main reason they host is to help make ends meet whilst just over a quarter say it’s to have extra spending money
- Nearly a third say they used money earned on Airbnb to finance home improvements and 15 per cent say they are saving for retirement
- Nearly a quarter of hosts either work in education, health care or social services
