Air services to remote islands are saved

Air services to three remote islands have been saved after the award of a four-year contract to their operator.

Argyll and Bute Council agreed the deal for a subsidised service from Oban to Coll, Colonsay and Tiree with charter firm Hebridean Air Services .

The company had been operating flights on an interim basis in the absence of bids that fell within the cost limit for the Public Service Contract (PSO) rules.

Hebridean Air Services was awarded the contract after a tendering process.

Councillor Aileen Morton, leader of Argyll and Bute Council, said: "It’s good news that these services have now been secured on a new contract with the existing operator, which means there will be no gap in service. There has been some uncertainty over the future of the services and I’m pleased that we can put any fears to rest with this announcement."
