Air India to speed up process of refund for COVID related cancellations

Air India, which owes refunds to the tune of INR 250 crore to passengers whose flights were cancelled due to COVID 19 has now decided to speed up the process. The airline has been processing refunds since July of this year, even though its revenues are severely affected by the second wave.

A recent report suggested that the airline has not yet paid INR 250 crore to passengers. The airline said, “Air India is opening automated refunds in India and abroad. We have cleared about Rs 130 crore of refunds in the previous month and are planning to expedite the process.”

The refunds are a result of the numerous cancelled scheduled flights that the country has seen since the outbreak of the pandemic. The above quote certainly brings hope.

Meanwhile, Interglobe Aviation, which runs IndiGo Airlines, has reportedly cleared refunds of passengers. Also, GoAir has reportedly paid all refunds to passengers.

According to reports, it is believed that Air India is delaying the refunds in order to manage cash flows.

India is currently seeing a limited number of domestic flights, while international flights remain cancelled. You could fly from India to international destinations today but where there are air bubbles. India currently has a number of international flights, but all of which are under air bubbles. Then there is the question of entry into other countries, which is still limited, or restricted.
