Air India Heathrow flight chaos as seven people taken ill mid-air

Seven people were taken ill on an Air India flight, reports say -

Seven people on board an Air India flight from Heathrow to Mumbai were taken ill midair, having become nauseous and dizzy, according to reports.

Five passengers and two cabin crew began to feel sick due to a slow decompression and a gradual decrease in cabin pressure, an airline official told the Hindustan Times in India.

Those affected are understood to have begun feeling unwell during different phases of flight AI-130 before it landed safely in Mumbai on Monday.

Several people had to be taken to the medical room once they landed in Mumbai, the official explained.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.

An Air India spokesperson told the Hindustan Times: “On board flight AI-130 from London Heathrow to Mumbai, five passengers and two crew reported feeling dizzy and nauseous during different phases of the flight.

“The flight landed safely in Mumbai where our medical teams were ready to provide immediate medical assistance.

“After landing, two passengers and two cabin crew, who continued to feel unwell, were taken to the medical room for further examination and were later discharged.

“We are investigating the incident and have duly notified the regulator.”

It comes just weeks after another Air India flight, bound for London Gatwick, crashed moments after take-off, killing 241 of 242 people on board in one of the worst aviation disasters of the decade.

Flight AI171, an Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after departing Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad after sending a mayday signal to air traffic control.

The sole survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh was filmed walking from the wreckage and heartbreakingly helped carry his brother’s coffin days after he was killed in the tragic crash.

Around 30 people are believed to have been killed when the plane, bound for Gatwick Airport, crashed into a doctors’ hostel less than a minute after take-off on June 12.

The victims included many returning to London from holidays and seeing their families.

Grieving Arjun Patoliya was flying back to London after keeping a promise to his late wife Bharatiben to scatter her ashes in the sacred Narmada River.

The couple had two children, aged four and eight, who stayed at home in the UK and are now mourning the deaths of both their parents in the space of a week.

Akeel Nanawaba, 36, his wife Hannaa Vorajee, 30, and their daughter Sarah, four, were flying home from a five-day family celebration when the plane crashed.

London couple Jamie Meek, 45, and his husband Fiongal Greenlaw, 39, are also understood to have been on the flight.
