Air India Dubai-Kochi flight suffers cabin pressurisation loss; masks deployed, plane diverted safely to Mumbai

NEW DELHI: An Air India Boeing 787 winging its way from Dubai to Kochi on Thursday with almost 250 people on board experienced cabin pressurisation loss, that led to deployment of masks on the Dreamliner.

Reporting this issue, the pilots decided to divert to Mumbai where flight AI-934 landed safely with everyone on board unharmed.

While ordering a probe, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has grounded the aircraft (VT-ANE) and off-rostered (taken off flying duty) the crew.

This is the latest in a series of snags being faced by Indian carriers in past few months.

“The captain had reported pressurisation loss,” officials said.

Two air safety officers have been rushed for a preliminary probe.

An AI spokesperson said: “Flight AI 934 operating from Dubai to Cochin was diverted to Mumbai today due to a technical issue. The B787 aircraft landed safely at Mumbai at 1912 hrs with 247 passengers and crew. An alternate aircraft is being arranged to carry passengers from Mumbai to Kochi. The matter is being probed by DGCA.”
