Air India crash: Flames from aircraft reached doctor’s residential quarters

The London-bound Air India flight that crashed on Thursday claimed at least 270 lives. However, the impact of the crash extended beyond the immediate crash site, with flames reaching the nearby BJ Medical College’s residential quarters – home to several super-specialist doctors serving at the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital and cancer hospital.

Located barely 100 metres from the crash site, the apartment complex was engulfed in fire shortly after the crash. At the time of the incident, most doctors were on duty, but their family members were inside the building. At least 16 residents sustained injuries.

On the third day after the crash, authorities directed doctors and their families to collect their essential belongings and vacate the premises as a precautionary measure.

Watch our ground report on the aftermath of the crash.
