Tik Tok users have warned against a 'deep cleaning' air fryer hack that could be doing more harm than good.
Air fryers are becoming increasingly popular as millions share their top hacks and recipes every single day. But one tip that has been doing the rounds on social media has led to a stark warning that your machine could break.
The ECHO has previously reported on many "tasty" recipes from gooey cookies to crispy chicken - all of which can be done in minutes. Many people will be looking for not only the quickest and easiest ways to clean their machines, but also the most cost effective.

Videos circulating on social media app TikTok appear to show a controversial way of cleaning an air fryer. As people video themselves removing the basket and filling it with warm, soapy water before placing the basket back in the machine.
They then turn the air fryer on for three to five minutes and when complete, empty the water into the sink before scrubbing the remainder of the grease off. However opinions on this appear to be divided as some suggest this could be doing more harm than good.

While many videos have amassed millions of views and thousands of likes and comments, one TikTok user videoed themselves doing it with the caption "I tried this and it worked". But thousands of people were quick to comment.
One person wrote: "DO NOT DO THIS. It blows water around and water destroys the element. Don't ask how I know..." A second said: "I did this. It's super clean but doesn't turn on."
Another said: "You're not supposed to put it in with any kind of water on it. Read the manual I have the exact same one. Everything is supposed to be completely dry." A fifth added: "It's dishwasher safe."

However, other suggestions for a clean air fryer included the use of silicone liners while cooking and cleaning the "old fashioned way" with soap and water and left to dry after use.
One creator, Organized Life Coach, shared a video of her also using an air fryer paper tray which can be thrown away after use. One person commented: "Use them every time, love them." However, some people expressed concerns of parchment liners catching fire
