2018 STAT PROFILES: link

The 2019 campaign for Air Force kicks off against Colgate, in what seems to be a tradition for the Falcons to begin the season against an FCS opponent.

Troy Calhoun has never lost to an FCS team in his tenure at Air Force and I would not expect that streak to be in jeapordy this year. That is not necessarily an indictment on the Colgate Raiders, but reflects of a talented Falcon team.

Colgate is coming off of a great 2018 season in which they had one of FCS’s top defenses. Unfortunately for the Raiders, though, a lot of those players have since graduated. Offensively, they do return an all-conference performer at quarterback in Grant Breneman, but it should be a pretty steep and uphill battle to match scores with the cadets from Colorado Springs.

This should be an opportunity to work through the depth of the Air Force roster and on-field communication. There still isn’t clarity on the starting quarterback as the two-deep still lists both Donald Hammond III and Isaiah Sanders as possible starters. I don’t know that this game will validate a starter, but it certainly is a starting point.

Look for a lot of players to get carries and make appearances on the stat sheet. Air Force falls one point short of a fifty burger, but covers the spread with a victory.

Air Force 49, Colgate 17
