Air ambulance was called to busy Lanarkshire road after crash

A busy Lanarkshire road was closed for hours yesterday afternoon (Sunday, August 30) following a crash.

Police and an air ambulance were called to the Horsley Brae at around 3.30pm following an incident with a motorbike and a car.

Clydesdale West Councillor Poppy Corbett wrote on social media: “Just been told that the Horsley Brae is closed and traffic coming up from Garrion is being diverted through Carluke, due to a serious accident. Hope everyone is ok.”

Others spotted the air ambulance en-route to the incident.

Another concerned motorist wrote on social media: “Bad accident at the Horsley Brae going up towards Overtown, road closed from the bridge. Bike accident, air ambulance there.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.30pm on Sunday, 30 August, officers were called to the A71 at Horsley Brae, following a crash between a Renault Clio and a motorcycle.

“The 37-year-old male motorcyclist was conveyed to Wishaw General Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

“The road was closed for around four hours to allow for investigation and recovery to take place.”
