Air ambulance transport person to RVI after 'serious' collision in County Durham

The air ambulance transported a person to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after a collision in County Durham.

North East Ambulance Service received a call after 2.30pm of a road traffic collision in Front Street, Stanhope, County Durham.

Emergency services arrived at the scene on A689 Front Street where the road was blocked in both directions.

Durham Police posted on social media urging the public to avoid the area.

The ambulance service dispatched a community first responder, a clinical care manager and an ambulance crew.

They also requested assistance from the Great North Air Ambulance Service.

One person was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by air ambulance.

The ambulance service also assessed two other people at the scene but they did not require hospital treatment.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision in Front Street, Stanhope, just after 2.30pm.

"We dispatched a community first responder, a clinical care manager, and an ambulance crew and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.

"One patient has been flown to the RVI and two further patients were assessed on scene but did not require hospital treatment."
