Air ambulance scrambled as lorry crashes off the M56

The emergency services were called to the M56 this afternoon after a lorry left the carriage way and ended up on a field.

The incident happened between junctions 10 and 11 near Daresbury in Cheshire shortly after 4pm.

Pictures from the scene showed an air ambulance after it had landed in the field.

Motorists who were passing the scene reported at least one other vehicle was also involved - it also appeared to have come off the motorway.

Police and paramedics were on the scene.

The lorry had driven off the motorway and ended up in a farmer's field.

North Motorway Police tweeted: "Getting reports of a lorry having left the motorway junction 10 to 11, M56 westbound onto a field.

"Police and Highways England en route."

The westbound carriage was completely blocked while there were also serious delays on the eastbound carriageway.

The tailbacks also affected the M6.

The emergency services also responded to reports of a crash between junction 9 at Lymm and 10 at Northwich a short time later.

Traffic was stopped there briefly but later released.
