Air ambulance scrambled as child 'seriously hurt' after being hit by car near school in St Helens

A schoolboy has been seriously hurt after they were hit by a car in St Helens on Wednesday morning.

The air ambulance was sent to the scene and the A570 St Helens Linkway is currently shut in both directions, the Echo reports.

The 15-year-old boy was hit by a Vauxhall Astra between Eurolink and the Sherdley roundabout, North West Ambulance Service said.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the A570 at the B5204 Elton Head Road at 8.26am after a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle and sent an ambulance, rapid response vehicle, air ambulance and clinician."

She said the boy was taken to hospital in a "serious condition".

Merseyside Police said: "At around 8.30am, it was reported that a Vauxhall Astra had been in collision with a pedestrian on St Helens Linkway, near the junction with Elton Head Road.

"Emergency services attended and the pedestrian, a 15-year-old boy, has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.

"The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene to assist with enquiries.

"Road closures are currently in place from Micklehead Roundabout and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
