An air ambulance landed at a Newcastle school after a man was seriously injured on a building site.

Paramedics were called to the building site opposite the Royal Grammar School on Eskdale Terrace on Wednesday morning.

The air ambulance landed on the school field near to the scene and the medical team treated a man who had suffered multiple injuries in a fall.

The man, whose injuries were described as "non-life threatening" by the police, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle.

It is believed he had fallen onto a roof.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.31am to reports of a person injured at a construction site on Eskdale Terrace in Jesmond.

"We dispatched a double-crewed ambulance, a trauma paramedic, four of our Hazardous Area Response Teams and also requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance.

"We transported a male patient to the RVI by road."

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 11.36am to reports of a person having fallen in central Newcastle.

"We landed near to the scene at the Royal Grammar School and have treated a patient for multiple injuries."

A Northumbria Police spokesperson added: "We received a report at 11.44am today of a work place accident at a site opposite the Royal Grammar School on Eskdale Terrace, Jesmond.
