Air ambulance deployed to Lawrence Weston after medical incident

A medical "incident" in a Bristol neighbourhood prompted a large emergency response this morning including the dispatch of the air ambulance.

Two ambulances and an air ambulance were sent to the scene of an incident in Lawrence Weston after they were called at 8.55am on Wednesday (March 9). Ambulance crews from South Western Ambulance Service attended to a patient nearby who was later sent to the Bristol Royal Infirmary by land ambulance.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) confirmed: “We were called at 08.55hrs to an incident in the Lawrence Weston area of Bristol. The resources we sent included two double-crewed land ambulances, an air ambulance and an operations officer.

"We conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Bristol Royal Infirmary”. No further details were provided about the nature of the incident or the location.

Neighbours on social media had reported seeing a large number of ambulances in the vicinity of Long Cross and the school. A staff member advised that the incident was unrelated to the school.

The SWASFT operate across the South West region including Bristol, North Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. The Trust is responsible for deploying six air ambulances, including two in Devon, which are operational 365 days a year.
