Air ambulance called to 'seriously unwell' person bitten by a snake in Northumberland

A person has been taken to hospital after being bitten by a snake in Northumberland.

Paramedics were called to an address in Harwood, west of Morpeth, at 12.20pm on Monday after a person was bitten by an adder and became "seriously unwell".

The air ambulance was also requested and landed at the scene at around 2pm to allow a critical care team to assess and treat the patient.

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 12.20pm on Monday to a private address in Harwood, Northumberland.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance, a trauma paramedic and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service."

The person was then transported to the Royal Victoria Infirmary by road ambulance for further treatment. Their condition is currently unknown.

A Great North Air Ambulance spokeswoman said: "Yesterday we were called to reports of a person who had become seriously unwell following a snake bite in Harwood, Northumberland.

"Our critical care team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient, who was then taken to hospital by road, accompanied by our team."
