Air ambulance called to rescue mountain biker who sustained painful leg injury

A mountain biker who fell off his bike at Gillies Hill near Cambusbarron on Wednesday evening sustaining a leg injury was taken to hospital in an air ambulance.

Two helicopters had attended the scene at about 7pm.

An air ambulance helicopter had been called out and a Coastguard helicopter, which had been at an Ochil Mountain Rescue training exercise in Bridge of Allan that evening, was also there.

Kevin Mitchell of Ochils Mountain Rescue said: “A call had come in that a mountain biker had been injured near Cambusbarron woods. The air ambulance was on its way by that time. With the Coastguard helicopter already at Bridge of Allan it was asked to assist. Ochils Mountain Rescue also attended as we were close.

“The mountain biker had suffered leg injuries after coming off his bike.

“The site was too overgrown an area to use the winch of the Coastguard helicopter and it left the scene.

“The mountain biker was taken to hospital in the Helimed air ambulance helicopter from Perth Airport after being carried to the helicopter from the accident scene by stretcher.”

Mr Mitchell stressed that anyone requiring assistance in a remote area should first call police on 999 and point out that they require the assistance of a mountain rescue team.
