Air ambulance called as man is taken to hospital after being stabbed in Alnwick

A man has been taken to hospital after a stabbing in Alnwick.

Emergency services were called to the Pastures area of Alnwick just before 7pm to reports that a man had been stabbed.

Police cordoned off the Lion Bridge on the on the B6341 as multiple ambulances and the Great North Air Ambulance arrived at the scene.

A man was found suffering with heavy blood loss and was treated at the scene by paramedics and a doctor.

He has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle by road ambulance with his condition being described as 'serious but non-life threatening'.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a call at 6.53pm to reports of a patient who had been stabbed in Alnwick.

"We dispatched a paramedic ambulance, air ambulance and officer and treated one man on scene before transporting him to RVI by road, with the support of a doctor from the air ambulance onboard our vehicle."

Officers remain at the scene with police officers patrolling both sides of the Lion Bridge and diverting traffic.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said:“Shortly after 6.50pm today (Tuesday), police received a report that a 48-year-old man had been assaulted near the Lion Bridge, Alnwick.

“Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries consistent with a stabbing.

“Enquiries into the circumstances around the incident are ongoing and a 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the assault.

"He currently remains in police custody at this time.

“Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries and ask anyone with any information to call police on 101 quoting reference number 914 16/06/20.”
