Air ambulance called and store taped off after 'attack'

An air ambulance was scrambled to the scene following reports of an attack in Ashton-under-Lyne.

Emergency services rushed down to Katherine Street following the incident tonight (Thursday).

It is unclear at this stage what happened but police said they believed it was an 'assault'.

They did not issue details about how badly injured those involved were or whether any arrests had been made.

Officers were pictured outside a convenience store on the street in the aftermath of the incident.

A police car was parked outside.

An eyewitness said the shop and the pavement around it was cordoned off.

Photos from the scene showed the air ambulance landing nearby.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for a comment.
