Air ambulance called after drug driver badly injures cyclist in smash

A driver has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a crash left a cyclist with a broken arm.

Emergency services including an air ambulance were scrambled to Deans Road, in Swinton, at around 6.45pm.

Traffic officers for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that a cyclist suffered a broken arm following a collision with a Vauxhall Astra.

According to officers, the driver of the car failed a roadside drug test and has been taken to Swinton Police Station.

A spokesman for GMP Traffic shared photos of damage to the side of a silver Vauxhall Astra, along with a positive drug test.

They tweeted: "Following reports of a serious RTC Deans Road Swinton. XT14 attended and found the cyclist had sustained a broken arm, having struck the side of the Astra.

"Unfortunately the driver of the Astra failed a roadside drug test and is currently at Swinton custody."
