Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool has donated 10,000 tickets to NHS workers for the 2022 Randox Grand National.
NHS staff will be welcomed on the first day of the event, Thursday April 7, which is being called ‘Liverpool’s NHS Day’.
After the 2020 Grand National was cancelled due to the pandemic, Aintree Racecourse announced it would donate 10,000 tickets to NHS workers for the 2021 event in recognition of their hard work and commitment.

However, due to ongoing restrictions, it had to take place behind closed doors, so Aintree have honoured the 10,000 complimentary tickets for the 2022 Randox Grand National instead.
The 10,000 Festival Zone tickets for Liverpool’s NHS Day have been split among Merseyside NHS providers. This includes Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Walton Centre, Liverpool University Hospital Trust, Clatterbridge and Liverpool Women’s Hospital.
Workers at Merseycare, St Helens and Whiston Hospitals, Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, Liverpool’s Heart and Chest Hospital and NW Ambulance Service were also invited to claim a complimentary ticket.
On November 10 at 12pm the tickets were available to Merseyside NHS workers who had to enter their work email address and could claim up to two complimentary tickets. Within hours they had all been snapped up.
Dickon White, regional director of Jockey Club Racecourses North West, said: “In 2020 we donated 10,000 tickets for this year’s Randox Grand National Festival, which we were delighted to do. However, I am not sure any of us anticipated that we’d still be in the position we were in with the pandemic in April this year.
"We were fully committed to our donation of 10,000 complimentary tickets for NHS staff to show our gratitude and so we thought the sensible thing to do was to honour the donation and roll it forward to the 2022 Randox Grand National Festival. We look forward to welcoming 10,000 NHS heroes on day one of the 2022 event to show our appreciation for everything they have been doing for us and I am sure we will enjoy a fantastic NHS celebration on the day.”
The 2022 Randox Grand National event starts on Thursday April 7 (Liverpool NHS Day), with Ladies Day taking place on Friday April 8 and the main event happening on Saturday April 9. You can book tickets online now.
