Aintree Ladies Day Style Award winners through the years

Today is usually the day when thousands of race goers put on their best outfits and head to Aintree racecourse to celebrate Ladies Day.

The day is known as one of the most stylish in the city's event calendar and with a prize of a car and a year's worth of clothing typically up for grabs - everyone dresses to impress.

Aintree's Style Award is open to both men and women with the competition opening around 11am on the day itself which always attracts huge queues around the racecourse.

This year's prize was going to be the most valuable prize ever to be awarded at the event with the winner being able to take home a new Jaguar E-Pace car.

Worth more than £35,000 the prize also was set to include a year's supply of dresses designed by Chi Chi London.

Of course, as we all know this year the Grand National was cancelled to prevent further spread of coronavirus which means 2020 won't have a Style Award winner.

So we've decided to take a look back at previous winners of the Style Award.

2008

Anna Perez won the Style Award competition back in 2008 wearing a floral dress with brown heels.

She was delighted to win the keys to a brand new car.

2011

Lystra Adams won the Style Award back in 2011 wearing an eye-catching hat and suit.

She is now a regular face at Aintree often pictured wearing extravagant headwear.

2013

The Ladies Day Style Award competition is open to everyone to take part in not just those from Liverpool.

Back in 2013 Andy Champ from Fulham won wearing a black suit and grey waistcoat.

The runner up was Rachel Thompson and third place went to Chantelle Green.

2014

Back in 2014 Becky Nightingale won Aintree's Style Award competition.

Becky, from Halewood Village won wearing a pastel-coloured dress, purple bag and light pink shoes.

It was at the time when Crabbie's sponsored the Grand National and Liverpool ONE sponsored the Style Award.

2016

Anna Gilderoy caused a frenzy when she won the Ladies Day Style Award back in 2016 with everyone wanting to know where her dress was from.

It was a £70 dress from Chi Chi London - the same brand who now sponsor the Style Award competition.

Her prize was a new Land Rover Evoque.

2017

Winner of Aintree Style Award 2017, Faith Amond (Liverpool Echo)

Faith Almond comes to Aintree every year and was delighted to win the award back in 2017.

The mum-of-three prides herself on her stylish attire, but was shocked to be announced the overall winner.

Her dress was by Irish designer Elizabeth Kennedy, her hat by another Irish designer Jennifer Wrynne and her shoes and bag were from LK Bennett.

As winner of the Style Award, Faith won a Range Rover Evoque worth £35,000, a hair and beauty hamper from Barbara Daley hair & beauty and £1,000 to spend in Outfit.

2018

Robyn May Quinn was crowned the winner of the annual Ladies Day Style Award at Aintree racecourse. (Liverpool Echo)

Robyn May Quinn, from Northern Ireland, impressed judges in her nude floral dress with her gold leaf tiara completing her outfit perfectly.

Speaking to the ECHO immediately after her win, Robyn said: “I went for the tiara as I thought that suited the dress the most.

“But it’s just surreal, I don’t think it’s set in yet, I can’t believe it. It’s amazing.”

2019

Last year's winner was Sue Moon who took home a new car and a year's worth of free clothing.

Sue wowed the judges in a mustard mid-length coloured dress, which she paired with a black hat and black shoes.

Speaking to the ECHO on the course last year, the 55-year-old said that although she attends Aintree every year, this was the first time she had entered the style competition.
