Aintree Festival tips for Day Two: Min ready to take revenge in Melling Chase

Min can take his revenge on Politologue in Friday's Melling (JLT) Chase (3.25), the feature race on the second day of the Grand National meeting.

The latter handled by Paul Nicholls just held off Min 12 months ago by a neck and the pair should be at the forefront again.

The stats favour Politologue in his bid to become the sixth dual winner and follow in the hoof prints of Viking Flaghship, Direct Route, Native Upmanship, Moscow Flyer and Voy Por Ustedes.

The grey Politologue was also in front of Min when well beaten by Altior in Cheltenham's Queen Mother Champion Chase but the two miles was not ideal for Willlie Mullins's fellow and he did not jump well that day.

The flatter track and a drop of rain will be ideal and while Waiting Patiently is another who would not be out of it, he would prefer a longer distance.

The Grand National experience according to legendary jockey AP McCoy

Janika has been hitting the bar all season, beaten favourite and runner-up each time for Nicky Henderson. His luck can change in the Topham Trophy - his first visit to Aintree and experience of the bigger obstacles - (4.05).

Also, he carries top weight but has what it takes to account for Newbury's Greatwood Gold Cup winner San Benedeto from the in-form Paul Nichols yard.

Champ had to settle for minor honours behind City Island in the Ballymore  at Cheltenham but has an excellent chance of bouncing back in the Sefton Novice Hurdle (4.40) for Barry Geraghty and Nicky Henderson.

The horse was staying on at the Festival and the three mile trip here should present no problems.

Emitom for Warren Greatrex comes into the race with an unbeaten record and continues on an upward curve with his recent Newbury victory. However, he has not met the class of Champ yet and that is likely to be decisive.
