Ainsley Maitland-Niles to enter Arsenal talks as Everton and Roma monitor situation

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to have talks on his Arsenal future next week.

Roma are interested in a potential loan deal in January with an option to make it permanent but nothing has been agreed with the Serie A club.

There has also been interest from Premier League clubs with Everton watching developments ahead of next month.

Gunners star Maitland-Niles, 24, is keen to get his future resolved with his priority to get regular game time again and the hope is that January may open up a new opportunity.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is currently having to isolate after testing positive for Covid while technical director Edu is due back from Brazil next week.

It would appear nothing is imminent but there will be strong interest in Maitland-Niles as soon as the window opens from January 1.

Maitland-Niles was keen to move last summer when Everton made a move for him back then as he made it plain he just wanted to get minutes, having spent the second half of the previous season on loan at West Brom.

But Arsenal blocked the switch and yet the England international has only had limited game time this season which has been frustrating.

Maitland-Niles came into midfield for Arsenal’s win over Watford in November, was named man of the match and yet has not started a game since.

He has operated in midfield, has made it clear he is also happy to play at full back or wing back but the opportunities have been few and far between.

Roma have been heavily linked with Maitland-Niles and Jose Mourinho is believed to be keen but it will still need Arsenal to give it the green light for any move to go further.

Maitland-Niles is back in training and available again after contracting Covid himself.

Arsenal are unlikely to do any major incomings in January but will want to resolve Maitland-Niles’ situation while Eddie Nketiah is into the final six months of his contract and there is loan interest in Folarin Balogun.
