Ainsley Maitland-Niles talks set as Everton speculation continues

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to have talks on his future at Arsenal next week as speculation over his future continues to mount.

The Mirror broke the news on Friday afternoon, stating that the 24-year-old is eager to get his future resolved and is looking for more playing time.

Everton made a move for Maitland-Niles late in the summer transfer window, but saw their efforts rebuffed as the Gunners were not willing to let him leave.

Despite pleas on his social media to depart, the England international remained at the Emirates after talks with manager Mikel Arteta.

Maitland-Niles has made just eight Premier League appearances so far this season, far less than he would've hoped when he opted to stay at the club at the beginning of the campaign.

The Arsenal star last made an appearance in November and question marks remain over his future as European clubs circle.

Roma are among the clubs that hold an interest in Maitland-Niles, with Jose Mourinho reportedly keen on the player.

It remains to be seen if Everton are to reignite their interest in the upcoming January transfer window should Maitland-Niles become available.

Arteta was asked about the player's future in his pre-Manchester City press conference on Friday, but refused to be drawn into any discussion on the situation.

"Any news with any player we keep it private. Ainsley is our player at the moment," the Arsenal boss told the media.

Maitland-Niles spoke last month saying he wanted to put the summer drama 'behind him, saying: "That’s all in the past now. I am just thinking about the future and what’s ahead of me."

His current contract with Arsenal expires in the summer of 2023, but the club will want to resolve the situation much sooner.
