Ainsley Maitland-Niles staying at Arsenal after clear-the-air talks with Mikel Arteta

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is staying at Arsenal after holding clear-the-air talks with manager Mikel Arteta.

Maitland-Niles was pushing to leave Arsenal and join Everton in a loan deal.

But Arsenal were reluctant to sanction his exit and the 24-year-old then made his feelings clear in a post on Instagram that said “he just wanted to play”.

Maitland-Niles is understood to have spoken to Arteta about his frustrations on deadline day and he will now remain at Arsenal.

The England international made his first Premier League appearance of the season as a substitute during the 5-0 defeat at Manchester City on Saturday.

Maitland-Niles won all of his five England caps last year when he was a regular for Arsenal at wing‑back.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at West Brom but has been told he is part of Arteta’s plans.

Maitland-Niles has two years left on his contract.
