Ainsley Maitland-Niles stance on Arsenal future as Everton saga takes fresh turn

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to stay at Arsenal for the upcoming season despite interest from Everton.

The Blues had been in contact with the north London club over a potential loan swoop for the 24-year-old as they continue to search for cover at right-back to challenge Seamus Coleman.

The Gunners, however, were unwilling to let their man leave on a temporary basis - initially prompting a blunt response from the England international on his Instagram account.

Maitland-Niles held clear-the-air talks with Mikel Arteta on Tuesday as the transfer deadline approached to address his situation for the upcoming campaign.

And now it seems that the 24-year-old will be staying at the Emirates Stadium after being informed he will feature in the manager's plans for the 2021/22 season.

That leaves Everton still searching for potential right-back cover heading into the last few hours of the transfer window.

Coleman and Jonjoe Kenny remain the Blues' options in that position as things stand, with Mason Holgate and Ben Godfrey also potentially able to cover if need be.
