It looks as though Ainsley Maitland-Niles is going to suffer relegation with West Bromwich Albion.
The Arsenal star has been on loan with the Baggies since January, but despite some good performances, has been unable to drag them out of the relegation mire.
West Brom are second from bottom, eight points adrift of safety, having played two games more than Brighton, the team just outside the relegation zone.
Sam Allardyce's men only have nine games to save themselves, but it looks as though it will be a job that will be too much for them to manage given their predicament at the wrong end of the table.
Maitland-Niles will have gained a lot from the game time he has had at the Hawthorns, and the experience of battling to beat the drop should stand him in good stead for the future too.
He, unlike many Baggies players, will be able to leave and return to the Emirates Stadium, however and into a team that is unlikely to face such problems in the future.
His next job will be trying to force his way into Mikel Arteta's first team plans.
That is something that Mesut Ozil failed to do. The German was frozen out under Arteta and eventually left the Emirates, with his contract terminated by mutual consent in January, with Ozil moving to boyhood club Fenerbahce.
Ozil still has a number of friends at Arsenal and it is clear Maitland-Niles is one of them.
The Baggies loanee posted a video onto his Instagram page on Saturday afternoon - a compilation of his best moments in a West Brom shirt so far, before the defeat to Crystal Palace.
And Ozil was quick to respond to the video of his best bits with a fire emoji.
And Maitland-Niles proved his friendship with the former Germany international, posting back to Ozil four words: "My brother miss you m10."
It's clear Maitland-Niles would have preferred Ozil to stay in north London.
