Ainsdale beach could look completely different under new plans

A popular Merseyside beach could soon look completely different under ambitious plans from Sefton Council.

A food and drink facility, more parking, electric vehicle charging points and more toilets are just some of the additions Ainsdale Beach could soon benefit from.

The beach attracts a large number of visitors, and the council is seeking to create "high quality visitor infrastructure" along the borough's coastline, to "drive growth within the visitor economy", as well as providing a high-quality visitor experience and reducing pressure on areas of high conservation value.

More parking and better accessibility at Ainsdale Beach could relieve nearby Formby, where residents say they suffer due to congestion and pavement parking on sunny days.

A number of operational changes took place at Ainsdale Beach during 2020.

These included the installation of alligator teeth to discourage people from driving onto the beach of an evening, as well as additional "visitor ambassador" staff being employed for a trial period.

The council says the public will be invited to share their thoughts on new plans for the beach via the visitor ambassadors, and on-site information.

Portable toilets were also installed for the 2020 season to meet covid health and safety requirements.

Sefton says it will borrow £352,000 for the improved off-beach parking facility, which will then generate a new income to cover all costs for the project.

The new plans will be discussed at a council meeting on Friday (May 28)
