GORAKHPUR: After inaugurating the pulse polio campaign at Gorakhpur district hospital, chief minister-designate Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the government's target is to administer polio drops to 3.8 crore children in Uttar Pradesh.
"Our target is to administer polio drops to 3.8 crore children in the state for which 1.1 lakh booths have been set up and more than 76,000 teams have been deployed. It is a communicable epidemic and causes permanent disability. After 2012, no case has been found in Uttar Pradesh but the campaign will continue to save our coming generations till the disease is eradicated from the world," said Yogi.
Claiming that his government "successfully controlled encephalitis by up to 95%" in the state, he said: "Encephalitis was taking lives of children and caused the death of 50,000 children in the last 40 years. Uttar Pradesh was on top in Covid management under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and drew praise from the entire world. We will be successful in eradicating polio too."
"Yogi aims to make India TB-free by 2025 and we all need to join hands for this by adopting a child suffering from TB or offering help in running government schemes," said an official.
Yogi also gifted toys and chocolates to the children and asked their parents to look after them properly. Senior officials administered polio drops to the remaining children. The CM inspected the health department stalls and flagged off the pulse polio awareness rally. The rally was taken out by the health department employees.
MP Shiv Pratap Shukla, MLA Vipin Singh, MLA Vimlesh Paswan and CMO Ashutosh Kumar Dubey were also present on the occasion.
