Ailing worker saved from high-rise tower

A Sydney man in his 50s was rescued after collapsing while working 40 metres above ground. (AAP)

A man in his 50s has been rescued from a height of 40 metres after suffering a medical episode while working on a Sydney communications tower.

Specialist rescue crews from Fire and Rescue NSW retrieved the semi-conscious man who was working on the tower at Quarter Sessions Road, Westleigh, in Sydney's north just after 10am on Tuesday.

Firefighters secured the man and lowered him to the ground using an aerial ladder platform truck.

NSW Ambulance spokeswoman Christie Marks said the man was treated on the scene before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

"The Special Operation Paramedics train specifically for these situations and they are the best in the business at what they do," she said.
