Aidy Boothroyd snub of Aaron Wan-Bissaka amid Man United transfer talk hammered

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has hammered the controversial decision from England under-21s boss Aidy Boothroyd to drop Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Crystal Palace right-back has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks as the Reds Devils and the London side discussion a potential transfer.

Boothroyd felt that the reports had unsettled Wan-Bissaka and that led to him dropping the defender for the final two group games of the under-21s European Championships after the 21-year-old made a key error in the opening loss to France.

Mills, however, thinks the calls from Boothroyd on Wan-Bissaka have been 'harsh'.

"Leaving Wan-Bissaka out saying his head wasn't in the right place, I think that was harsh," Mills said on Sky Sports.

"He made a mistake and it was an error. To say he was distracted, he should have known that in the first place and not played him at all.

"It's one mistake. Was Henderson distracted? He made a horrendous error. The only way you learn from the error is by playing.

"Now he has to go through the whole summer and he hasn't played for eight weeks. I don't think that is right either."

United have had two bids for Wan-Bissaka rejected but are expected to continue their pursuit.
