Aiden Aslin reunited with family as he lands at Heathrow Airport

Newark's Aiden Aslin has reportedly landed in the UK and been reunited with his family after being freed by Russian authorities. The Saudi Arabian foreign ministry confirmed in a statement on Wednesday (September 21) that Mr Aslin, along with ten other captives, had been released.

Saudi Arabia had been mediating talks between Russia and Ukraine and pictures showed Mr Aslin arriving in Saudi Arabia with the other captives last night. A video was then released featuring Mr Aslin seated next to fellow prisoner Shaun Pinner, confirming that they were returning home.

The BBC is now reporting that Aiden Aslin, along with British nationals John Harding, Dylan Healy, Andrew Hill and Shaun Pinner, have arrived back in the UK. Quoting a spokesperson for the Presidium Network, a non-profit group that has been supporting Mr Healy's family, the BBC reports the five men have landed at Heathrow Airport and have been reunited with their families.

People in Aiden Aslin's home of Balderton said they had heard that his family were on their way to the airport on Thursday morning, September 22. The UK Foreign Office said it was unable to comment on travel arrangements.

The 28-year-old Mr Aslin was fighting in areas of Ukraine - including in the city of Mariupol - where he surrendered to Russian forces. On June 9, Mr Aslin, along with fellow Briton Shaun Pinner and Moroccan national Saaudun Brahim, was sentenced to death for his fighting in Ukraine.
