Aidan Turner 'got bored' of the sight of his bare chest as Poldark's popularity grew

It’s a sight so many of us could never tire of.

But Aidan Turner saw this shirtless image of himself scything in Poldark so much that he got bored of it.

As the 2015 BBC historical drama grew in popularity, Aidan began to find it tedious that media coverage would always include “a certain photograph or talk about nudity”.

He added: “It began to overshadow the show and that frustrated me.

“It just got boring.”

Aidan previously grumbled he had to “fight” with Poldark producers to keep his clothes on when it was requested that he went shirtless again.

He said at the time, referring to Winston Graham’s novels: “They were trying to make me take another dip in the sea, but it’s not in the books.

“I’m certainly fighting the cause to keep my clothes on.”

He also complained that the image was released as publicity for the series, remarking: “It’s not a stripper show.”

The actor, who recently wed Caitlin FitzGerald, will play Leonardo da Vinci in a new series, despite wanting to diversify his roles away from historical ones.

He tells Radio Times: “I don’t think the next thing will be a period drama.

“It was too hard to turn down. I would’ve regretted not doing it for the sake of wearing another billowy shirt.”

It’s just that he isn’t keen to remove the billowy shirt.
