Aidan O'Shea injury update as Mayo handed boost ahead of Allianz League

Mayo have been handed an injury boost as captain Aidan O’Shea could make an early return in the Allianz Leagues.

O’Shea suffered a seemingly serious knee injury in the county’s first session after last week’s return to training with fears that he could miss the rest of the season.

But according to reports, the injury is thought to be less serious than initially feared as a scan revealed he attained no ligament damage.

Mayo have endured misfortune with knee injuries in the recent past with Jason Doherty and Colm Boyle both sidelined for the majority of the 2020 season after apparent cruciate ligament damage in both cases.

The news puts the midfielder in the running to make a return from injury during next month’s Allianz Leagues ahead of the revised Championship.

O’Shea hasn’t missed a Championship game since 2012, and has played in 58 successive games for the county.

They will get their campaign underway against Sligo in the Connacht SFC quarter-final in June.
