Aidan O'Mahony says he won't push daughters to follow in his football or Dancing With The Stars footsteps

Former Dancing With The Stars winner Aidan O’Mahony said he won’t push his daughters to follow in his football or dancing footsteps.

The doting dad of two girls, Lucia, two and seven week old baby Lilah said he can’t remember his life before his daughters arrived, but admitted he would never want to become a pushy parent.

The five-time All Ireland winner told the Irish Mirror: “I think it is important for kids to be involved in any kind of sport whether it’s football or soccer but I’m not going to be a parent that pushes a kid towards playing GAA because her dad did.

“The more sport they play the better.

“But I think eventually down the line they will pick something they like themselves whether it is some form of sport or dancing.”

The 38-year-old added: “Lilah came into our life seven weeks ago and Lucia is just over two years old and they are very close ages which is great.

“For Lucia it is brilliant, a new person in her life, taking over her territory but it is lovely to see them grow.

“Like I always say, the most important part is when they wake up in the morning and putting them to bed at night and that’s the way it is now the house is covered head to toe in pink but it is lovely and hopefully they will grow up to be best friends.”

He added: “They are daddies girls. They have daddy wrapped around their finger already i’d say i’ll never make a decision again in my life because I am totally outnumbered.

“But I think it is beautiful. Before you have kids everyone tells you about how it changes your life for the better and for me that is no different.

“When they come into your life you can’t imagine your life without them and it is a great feeling.”

By day, the Co Kerry footballing legend is a Garda in Tralee.

Meanwhile, his spare time is spent working on his new fitness business as well as working with Cardiac Risk in Young (CRY)Ireland, asking the public to join him in walking the Camino de Santiago on September 7-14.

Aidan was affected by Sudden Cardiac Death when he lost his dad to a sudden heart attack in 2012.

And speaking about why he wanted to get involved in the walk, he said: “It is an honour for me to take part in the Camino Trek and to be an ambassador for such an important and worthy charity.”

“By working with Cry you hear people’s stories and we have very small worries and I say look we are just kind of expressing life in full while we are on this earth.”
