AIB issue scam warning to customers over sneaky fraudulent text

AIB has warned customers about a new text scam which is landing in phone inboxes across Ireland.

A message purporting to be from the bank saying they have "temporarily suspended access on your AIB account".

People are then encouraged to click a link where they are asked for more personal bank details.

Some customers have complained on social media that the text is coming in from the official AIB message feed.

But the bank has warned people not to fall for such tricks.

A spokesperson said: "This is a fraud text. AIB will never send any texts or emails with a link to click on.

"Unfortunately our number was intercepted so it looks like these texts are genuine from us, however these messages will always contain a link to click on which we always advise our customers not to click on.

"We have escalated this to our IT department unfortunately some fraudsters do manage to keep getting through. We have put up notices on the AIB website as well as the Mobile App and in any of our correspondence we always highlight never to click on links."
