AIB Ireland scam: Urgent warning as 'very realistic' text catching customers out

AIB are warning customers of a "very realistic" text scam that is attempting to catch people out.

The bank tweeted on Monday about the scam which tells people that their card has been used for an online transaction.

The text will say: "Your AIB Visa card has been used for online transaction at 18:30.

"Not you? Proceed to (AIB Link) as soon as possible."

Taking to social media, an AIB spokesperson said: "We’ve been alerted by customers to fraudulent texts pretending to be from AIB and other banks.

"If you have received this text please do not click on the link. If you have responded to these texts please contact us immediately and email a copy of the text to alert@aib.ie."

One customer also relayed the message after receiving the scam text themselves, they added: "SCAM WARNING, very realistic @AIBIreland scam text that brings you to a realistic website. Just spoke with card services and it is a scam. Do not put in your details."
